Parenthood gets a bad rap for killing romance. It’s not without reason. Sometimes I think about my husband and I in our one bedroom apartment downtown, weekend dinners at seafood restaurants and trips to warmer places, spending an hour on my makeup every day and even more time at the gym. Then I walk downstairs to announce that my toddler threw up on me and my faded red Nike shirt I bought in the 9th grade, hair tied up in the same collapsing messy bun I’ve had in since yesterday’s shower, exhausted and grumpy, and I think how the f$&k do you still like me?

But that’s the point I want to argue. I’d say it’s pretty romantic to show up exactly as you are, deep in the mess of trying to raise good humans, and know that you’re loved as deeply as you were—even MORE deeply than you were—when things looked a little more “traditionally romantic”.

As your Kitsap and Gig Harbor family photographer, I approach every session with the focus on the kids, of course, but also on the connection between the parents–you two created all of this, after all!
